The Reality of 'Student Entrepreneurship' Revealed

ANOBAKA, a venture capital firm specializing in seed-stage startups, recently conducted a survey on career choices among 103 students and entrepreneurs. The results highlight a clear gap in perception: while 58.1% of established entrepreneurs said they would have launched a startup as students if they could go back in time, only 14.5% had actually considered entrepreneurship during their university years. This suggests that many potential founders simply lacked the visibility or awareness of entrepreneurship as a viable career path early on.

Why Students Hesitate to Take the Leap

The survey reveals that the barriers to student entrepreneurship are more internal than external. While financial concerns were cited by 25.8% of respondents, the primary obstacles identified were a 'lack of entrepreneurial knowledge' (59.7%) and 'uncertainty regarding business ideas' (51.6%). The scarcity of professional guidance, concrete ideas, and like-minded peers continues to stifle the entrepreneurial spirit among students.

Empowering Young Founders: The 'ANOBAKA U-25 AI Accelerator'

To bridge this gap, ANOBAKA is now accepting applications for the second cohort of its 'ANOBAKA U-25 AI Accelerator.' The program is designed specifically for innovators aged 25 and under. It provides non-dilutive funding of up to ¥1 million, alongside intensive individual mentorship from active investors, educational workshops, and a kickoff boot camp to accelerate the personal and professional growth of young founders.

Program Outlook and Application Details

Following the success of the first cohort, which supported 16 participants through to their final Demo Day, the second cohort is set to double down on deep support for aspiring entrepreneurs aiming to build the next generation of generative AI unicorns. The program will run from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. Applications close on August 16, 2026, marking a significant opportunity for young entrepreneurs to bring their visions to life.
