The Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN (SMRJ) has opened applications for the 16th cohort of "FASTAR," its flagship acceleration program designed to support startup growth. With a vision to foster unicorn companies and core regional enterprises, the program supports startups aiming for milestones such as IPOs or M&As.
Starting this cohort, the program has introduced a new "Regional Track" aimed at companies tackling regional challenges and driving innovation. As a general rule, applicants must be within five years of establishment or in the pre-startup phase. For research-and-development-oriented startups in life sciences and deep tech, the eligibility extends to companies within ten years of establishment. The application period runs until December 4, 2026, at 12:00 PM.
Through FASTAR, SMRJ experts act as dedicated partners, providing continuous mentoring for approximately one year. In addition to refining business plans, the program comprehensively addresses management challenges by offering expert advice on intellectual property, legal, and financial matters, PoC validation support, and networking opportunities with venture capitalists and large corporations.
Over its past 15 cohorts, the program has selected 220 companies, which have collectively raised approximately 35.6 billion yen in funding. For those considering applying, an online briefing session (including a Q&A consultation) will be held on November 6 at 5:00 PM. Detailed application guidelines and terms of participation are available on the official website.
