GeoDreams Inc. has completed its Pre-Series A funding round through a third-party allotment of shares, with the SBI Group as the underwriter. This marks the company's first external investment. The newly raised capital will be allocated toward technology development, demonstration tests, and strengthening the R&D infrastructure, with a clear view toward commercializing next-generation closed-loop geothermal power generation by 2030.
Founded in January 2022, GeoDreams is a startup developing next-generation geothermal power generation technology. The company utilizes a closed-loop system that extracts subterranean heat through sealed piping, deploying proprietary technologies such as the high-performance drilling technology "G-Pulse" and the geothermal exploration and evaluation technology "Typhoon." Headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, the company aims to bring geothermal power generation into practical, societal use.
Driven by the rapid expansion of data centers due to the proliferation of generative AI and the subsequent surge in power demand, securing a stable, decarbonized power supply has become an urgent priority in Japan. Focusing on Japan's vast geothermal resource potential, GeoDreams is concentrating on overcoming the greatest barriers to geothermal development: reducing drilling costs and shortening development timeframes. The company plans to participate in the NEDO Green Innovation Fund project between 2026 and 2028, with an eye toward launching Japan's first closed-loop geothermal power generation business in 2031.
Ryuki Suzuki of SBI Investment Co., Ltd. highly praised GeoDreams' integrated approach to advancing drilling, exploration, and power generation system development, as well as its concrete commercialization roadmap. The SBI Group intends to provide ongoing support for the company's future technology development and demonstration processes.
