Google has announced the introduction of "Call for Me," a new feature powered by its Gemini AI assistant that handles phone calls on behalf of users. The feature aims to reduce the time wasted on hold during everyday phone reservations and inquiries.
"Call for Me" is a new feature rolling out for Google Pixel devices. When a user calls a business or store and is placed on hold, Gemini detects the hold state and continues waiting on the user's behalf. Once a live operator comes on the line, Gemini notifies the user so they can seamlessly take over the call.
This feature leverages Gemini's real-time processing capabilities and contextual understanding. Rather than serving as a simple automated response system, it accurately tracks the status of the hold, delivering an efficient and streamlined communication experience for the user. It is designed as a tool to protect users' time in environments with notoriously long wait times, such as customer support.
Google plans to gradually expand the scope and availability of "Call for Me." This capability marks a significant milestone in demonstrating how AI can shoulder complex real-world operations and enhance human productivity.
