Investment Overview

IMM Investment Japan (IMMJ) has led the Series D funding round for fusion energy technology developer Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) via the "Japan-Korea Fusion Fund," a joint investment vehicle established alongside prominent Japanese and South Korean investors. This initiative marks a milestone cross-border collaboration bringing together industrial leaders from both nations to advance the fusion ecosystem.

About Kyoto Fusioneering

Kyoto Fusioneering is a pioneering deep-tech company dedicated to engineering and supplying critical foundation technologies required to make fusion energy a reality. Its primary technological domains include advanced plasma heating systems (gyrotrons), tritium fuel cycle systems, tritium breeding blankets, and thermal energy conversion cycles, delivering comprehensive engineering solutions geared toward the commercial realization of fusion power plants.

Strategic Use of Funds and Future Outlook

The newly raised capital will be deployed to accelerate the development and enhancement of KF's integrated demonstration testing platforms—UNITY-1, UNITY-2, and UNITY-3—while significantly scaling its R&D and manufacturing capabilities, notably for gyrotron systems. Furthermore, KF will intensify global talent recruitment to reinforce its business footprint across worldwide markets striving for decarbonization and energy security. Through this investment, IMMJ intends to foster deeper strategic alliances between South Korean industrial giants and KF, driving synergistic technological and commercial partnerships that extend well beyond conventional financial investment.

Participating Investors

The fund comprises prominent investors from both Japan and South Korea. Japanese participants include Nanto Capital Partners, NCB Venture Capital, and Ignition Point Venture Partners. South Korean backers include major energy and heavy industry leaders—POSCO Holdings, POSCO International, Doosan, and GS E&C—along with Octagon Venture Partners.
