The Context Behind the Monthly Supporter Campaign

The Machito-Hitoto Foundation (Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture) has launched a monthly supporter campaign to bolster the operational foundation of 'Maki-Vola,' a program that connects high school students with local businesses for volunteer opportunities. As 15 years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and reconstruction-related subsidies begin to sunset, the foundation aims to secure an annual operating budget of approximately 2 million yen. This funding is essential to maintain this vital learning environment that bridges the gap between youth and the local community. The organization’s goal is to acquire 50 recurring donors by September 30, 2026.

About the Machito-Hitoto Foundation

Established in 2022, the foundation operates under the vision of "creating a city where every young person in Ishinomaki can achieve extraordinary self-realization." It functions as an essential educational infrastructure, supporting youth growth and ambition through initiatives such as regional exploration programs for high school students and "Miraibrary," a series of dialogue-based classes with working professionals. To date, 'Maki-Vola' has hosted a cumulative total of 411 high school and university students, providing them with opportunities to deepen their understanding of the region through hands-on experiences at local companies and organizations.

Funding Objectives and Future Outlook

Donations starting at 1,000 yen per month will be utilized to improve the quality of the educational program. This includes coordinating with host businesses, training student interns, and providing comprehensive pre- and post-volunteer support for participating students. Moving forward, the foundation is committed to transitioning toward an "autonomous operating model" that does not rely on government reconstruction budgets. This shift is designed to ensure the permanence of a system that empowers the next generation to foster pride and deep attachment to their home region.
