The Mitsubishi UFJ Foundation for Technology Promotion has selected and approved five projects out of 77 applicants for its first round of R&D grants for fiscal year 2026. Totaling 15 million yen, the grants aim to support innovative research and development by technology-oriented SMEs and startups.
The selected projects are as follows:
1. ImVisionLabs Inc.: Development of general-purpose spatial recognition AI using point cloud foundation models
2. QioN Co., Ltd.: Development and sales of ammonia electrosynthesis devices
3. Timeple Inc.: Development of diagnostic support equipment for intractable neurological diseases utilizing iPS data and AI
4. Human Physical Intelligence Inc.: Development of the world's lightest active power assist suit
5. VISION IV Inc.: Commercialization of high-quality diamond substrates for next-generation semiconductors
Since its establishment in 1983, the foundation has supported SMEs and startups engaged in the development of outstanding new technologies and products. Grant eligibility is limited to projects that demonstrate novelty and have the potential for commercialization within ideally two years, with selections made by a review committee composed of industry experts and academics.
Each project will receive a maximum of 300 million yen (up to 50% of the targeted R&D expenses). The foundation remains committed to supporting R&D-driven startups in developing new technologies and products, thereby fostering the innovation that serves as the foundation of Japan's industrial competitiveness.
