Overview of the Grant Program

The Mitsubishi UFJ Foundation for Technology Promotion has officially opened applications for its second fiscal year 2026 R&D grant program, starting September 20, 2026. This initiative is designed to support technology-driven SMEs and startups that are developing and commercializing innovative new technologies and products on their own. The grant provides up to 3 million yen per project, which is disbursed in advance upon the approval of the grant.

Eligibility and Target Projects

In principle, eligible applicants are SMEs (excluding subsidiaries and affiliates of large or listed corporations) or sole proprietors within five years of establishment, founding, or entry into a new business sector. Supported projects must involve R&D that demonstrates novelty compared to existing technologies and has a realistic prospect of commercialization within two years. The application period runs from September 20 to October 20, 2026.

Objectives and Eligible Expenses

The grant is intended to cover expenses associated with R&D, such as research and study costs, design fees, equipment costs, testing fees, and prototyping expenses. By alleviating the capital shortages that early-stage ventures often face and accelerating R&D momentum, the foundation takes a long-term perspective in backing the early productization and market entry of these innovations.
