Financing Overview

Nozomi Energy Co., Ltd. has successfully achieved financial close for its upcoming grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture. The 50MW / 196MWh facility has secured funding through non-recourse project financing provided by Aozora Bank, Ltd. This project was a winning entry in the first round of Japan's FY2023 Long-term Decarbonization Power Source Auction.

About Nozomi Energy

Established in May 2023 with the backing of Actis, a global investor in sustainable infrastructure, Nozomi Energy is a renewable energy platform focused exclusively on the Japanese market. The company handles the full lifecycle of solar power, onshore wind, and energy storage projects—from development and construction to long-term operation. Nozomi Energy is currently on track to build a 1.1GW portfolio by the end of 2027.

Strategic Significance and Future Outlook

A defining feature of this project is its 20-year capacity revenue stream, which is indexed to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This structure mitigates inflation risks and ensures high long-term revenue predictability. Nozomi Energy views this project as a critical strategic milestone as it continues to accelerate the development of storage assets alongside its solar and onshore wind initiatives. Construction is slated to begin shortly, with commercial operations expected to commence in September 2028.
