OpenAI has released the "Decisions API," a new interface designed to simplify complex evaluations and decision-making processes in business applications. Rather than prompting AI models for ambiguous answers, this API aims to enhance accuracy and consistency in AI-driven decisions by enforcing structured responses based on predefined choices.
The standout feature of the Decisions API is its ability to restrict AI outputs to formats such as "Yes/No" or selecting a single option from a provided list. This reduces the parsing costs associated with free-form text responses and facilitates direct integration into existing systems.
In traditional LLM usage, AI models tend to generate verbose explanations, requiring post-processing (parsing) to be integrated into automated workflows. By structurally controlling the output format during the inference process, this API helps developers quickly build reliable decision-making logic.
OpenAI plans to drive the automation of complex business requirements through this API. Moving forward, further optimization of evaluation scenarios and functional expansions to support diverse decision-making processes are anticipated.
