Overview of the Funding

BRICKS FUND TOKYO, a corporate venture capital fund managed by Mitsubishi Estate, has invested in OptQC Inc., a company dedicated to advancing the practical application of optical quantum computers. This investment aims to gain industrial policy and use case insights within the quantum technology sector, as well as to contribute to the development of a robust quantum ecosystem.

About OptQC

OptQC was established in September 2024, building upon years of optical quantum technology research from Professor Furusawa's Laboratory at the Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. The company seamlessly integrates research, development, and business implementation, aiming to deploy optical quantum technology globally in society. OptQC plays a central role in government-led initiatives, including selection for NEDO projects and participation in JST's Moonshot Research and Development Program.

Purpose of Funding and Future Outlook

Optical quantum technology is capable of operating at room temperature and normal pressure, offering potential advantages over other methods in terms of lower power consumption and simplified control systems. Through a capital and business alliance with NTT Corporation—the lead investor in this round—OptQC is strengthening collaboration that looks beyond research and development toward real-world societal implementation. With this investment, Mitsubishi Estate aims to develop innovation hubs leveraging quantum technology and create future business opportunities.
