Program Overview

As part of its "Shibuya Startup Support" initiative, Shibuya Ward began accepting applications on September 1, 2026, for the 4th cohort of "S-Startups," a program designed to certify and support next-generation startups. The program aims to recognize high-potential startups scaling from Shibuya to the global stage and provide them with an environment conducive to continuous challenge and growth.

Support Program Details

This program invites business models leveraging Shibuya Ward's unique strengths from Japan-based startups in the pre-seed to early-stage phases. Certified companies will receive 24/7 free access to coworking spaces within SHIBUYA BRIDGE, business registration rights, and opportunities for business co-creation through industry-government collaboration. A total of 25 companies have been certified across the first three cohorts, achieving tangible results such as proof-of-concept (PoC) experiments and speaking engagements at major events.

Application Requirements and Selection Process

Applicants must meet specific requirements, such as offering a business that contributes to the challenges faced by Shibuya Ward and its residents, and compliance with public order and morals. The application window runs from September 1 to September 30, 2026 (9:00 PM JST). Document screening results will be announced in mid-November, followed by pitch evaluations in early December to select the certified companies. The support period is scheduled for one year, running from January 4, 2027, to January 3, 2028.
