Uber and Chinese autonomous driving technology company Pony.ai have announced plans to introduce a robotaxi service in London. The two companies are collaborating to accelerate the practical deployment of autonomous driving technology in urban areas.
Under this initiative, Uber's extensive ride-hailing platform will be integrated with Pony.ai's proprietary autonomous driving system. As a result, users are expected to be able to hail self-driving vehicles powered by Pony.ai directly through the Uber app.
Pony.ai brings a strong track record of development in the autonomous driving sector, while Uber operates a global ride-hailing network. By combining their respective strengths, the companies aim to deliver a new mobility experience in urban transportation. Moving forward, they plan to conduct pilot operations within London while coordinating with UK regulatory authorities to prepare for the official launch.
