VIPO and KOFIC Announce International Co-Production Workshop to Cultivate Young Japanese and Korean Film Producers
About the Japan-Korea Producers Exchange in Tokyo
The Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), in collaboration with the Korean Film Commission (KOFIC), has announced the launch of the "Japan-Korea Producers Exchange in Tokyo," a specialized workshop for young producers aimed at promoting international co-productions and partnerships between Japan and South Korea. This initiative is designed to deepen participants' understanding of the production environments, market structures, and financing schemes in both countries, while supporting the creation of globally competitive film projects.
Workshop Objectives and Content
The workshop focuses on refining film projects brought by participants from both nations and building a sustainable network for ongoing collaboration among producers. Scheduled to take place from November 11 to 13, 2026, the program will also feature preliminary online training sessions. A select group of 3 to 5 participants will be chosen through a competitive screening process.
Background and Track Record
VIPO and KOFIC signed a memorandum of cooperation in 2006 and have spent many years promoting the growth of the visual content industry and cultural exchange. Building upon the success of the "Japan-Korea Producers Exchange Busan & Tokyo" held in 2025, which successfully facilitated producer matchmaking, this upcoming Tokyo session aims to impart even more practical and hands-on operational frameworks.
Future Outlook and Awards
The program is planned as a reciprocal initiative between Japan and South Korea, with the next session scheduled for around June 2027 in South Korea. Projects developed through the workshop will be eligible for award consideration during the subsequent Korean session, depending on their progress. This ongoing effort is expected to strengthen international collaboration within the film industry and foster the next generation of talented producers.
