Attention is gathering around "glasses for voice," a device currently in development by a founder who lost his voice to cancer, created with the goal of restoring his own communication. This project aims to empower individuals who have lost their voices due to illness or injury to converse once again using their own voices with the help of technology.
The device under development adopts a form factor similar to eyeglasses, equipped with an interface that captures muscle movements when the wearer attempts to speak without producing sound. An AI analyzes these signals and outputs them as synthesized speech. In particular, progress is being made to utilize the founder's own voice data recorded before losing his voice, designed to deliver a conversational experience with a sound quality closely resembling his original voice.
While conventional voice-reproduction technologies have primarily relied on smartphone applications, this project adopts the form factor of everyday wearable glasses. By doing so, it eliminates the need to pull out a smartphone every time a conversation takes place, aiming to realize a more natural and seamless communication experience.
Born from the personal hardships of the founder, this project is gathering high expectations from patient communities facing similar situations. It is currently in the development phase toward commercialization, with the ongoing process of enhancing the technical maturity and reliability of the system.
