Xona Space Systems has officially begun operating a commercial satellite positioning network designed to serve as an alternative to traditional GPS. This independent system delivers high-precision, highly reliable positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) data globally without relying on legacy GPS infrastructure.
The newly launched commercial PNT service is characterized by its centimeter-level positioning accuracy. It is designed for mission-critical applications in fields such as industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, and precision agriculture, where millisecond-level latency or minor errors can directly impact safety.
Traditional GPS was originally developed as military infrastructure, presenting inherent limitations in accuracy and signal interference mitigation for commercial civilian use. Xona's technology leverages a dedicated commercial satellite constellation, engineered to deliver high availability and robust security even in urban canyons and obstructed environments.
The company plans to progressively deploy additional satellites to expand its global coverage. Built from the ground up for commercial use, the service allows enterprises to integrate Xona's technology with existing GPS receivers, enabling the development of advanced location-control systems.
